Thoughts on The Flash? (SPOILERS!!!)

| June 15, 2023 | | Comments count:0 Photo: Warner Bros. PIctures This article contains major spoilers for The Flash.Ever since Ezra Miller’s The Flash was briefly retitled Flashpoint in the late 2010s, there has been a lot of expectation (and desperation?) from Warner Bros. Pictures. Could this mark a fresh start—a chance for Miller’s speedster to travel back to the past and, in so doing, accidentally reset the DC Extended Universe into something a little more pleasing for fans and studio executives alike? That calculus has of course changed multiple times over the years, and in the interim, The Flash began to look less like a clean slate than it did a last hurrah. Instead of a pivot, the film could very well be a wake, a eulogy, and a fond farewell to 10 years of erratic DCEU storytelling. Going in, you might even think the movie will be nothing but a fan service smorgasbord, with Michael Keaton’s Batman as the main course. To be sure, the ending of The Flash is stuffed with easter eggs, winks, nods, and asides. Nonetheless, director Andy Muschietti reaches for something a little meatier and more emotional than you might expect. Does it work? It’s debatable, but here is what the movie’s biggest swings at the end are supposed to mean—as well as where it and its many cameos leave the DC Universe going forward. In terms of science fiction storytelling, the grand finale to The Flash is both the most ambitious sequence of the

Warning: SPOILERS for Batman Beyond #35 When Bruce Wayne grows too old to suit up, he must recruit a successor--and Batman Beyond is born. But what happens when that Batman goes bad, and joins forces with a villainous speedster? Simple: Bruce calls in some help from the future version of The Flash. Or should we say... Flash Beyond? The historians among the Batman Beyond fan base will be quick to point out that an inheritor of the Flash mantle has existed in Neo-Gotham's world before. But in the crisis unfolding in Batman Beyond #35, Bruce Wayne decides this is a job for a different speedster than Danica Williams. Perhaps the former Dark Knight is getting less and less tolerant of putting child heroes in danger in his old age. Or a bit more likely, the presence of a speedster villain gives Bruce the to accomplish two tasks at once: save the day with some Speed Force back-up, while also calling up an old friend to bury the hatchet. It's nice to know even in the future, Barry Allen doesn't hold a grudge. For fans who may not be up to speed, the issue of Batman Beyond in question doesn't technically include its titular hero. With Terry McGinnis framed for murder and on the run, it's the villain False-Face who outsmart every resident of the Batcave, posing as Terry to get his hands on the Batsuit and its arsenal. Not to mention seek out and stop the speedster duo known as 'The Splitt'... only to recruit them to his fight against Bruce, instead of saving them from their terminal condition. When Terry's ally Melanie (formerly known as 'Ten' of the Royal Flush Gang) tries to step in for Batman and keep the villains at bay, things go less than swimmingly. Some

Sign in to your CBR account WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Flash Season 8, Episode 2, "Armageddon, Part 2," which aired Tuesday, November 23rd on The CW. The Flash Season 8 began with Barry Allen confronted by the extraterrestrial antagonist Despero who arrived from ten years in the Arrowverse's relative future and intent to kill the Flash. Pressed for more information, Despero reveals that Barry will descend into insanity and destroy the world in his madness, with Despero determined to stop this from coming to pass. And while an impromptu team-up with former Legend of Tomorrow Ray Palmer led Despero to agree giving Barry one week to prove his innocence and avoid being executed where he stood, the latest part of the "Armageddon" crossover event suggests that Despero may have been right about Barry all along. Despero informs Barry that his breaking bad will comes from pressures on his mind causing his sanity to snap, hinting that a cataclysmic event will happen to him the following day and that, should he show any signs of his prophesied insanity, he will intervene and kill Barry on the spot. Team Flash speculates that Barry's recent speed boost from the end of The Flash Season 7 fuels this mental decline while Killer Frost suggests Chester build a weapon to deal with Despero, a request that visibly unnerves Chester as he has never used his intellect towards creating weaponry before and is a committed pacifist ever since a childhood incident that had him accidentally burn down his best friend's house. Arriving at a crime scene of a man who violently descended into madness, Barry learns he is under federal investigation under suspicion that he assisted the villainous Joe Carver in spying on the Central City Police Department two years prior. While Kramer is sympathetic to Barry, she informs him that the investigation is beyond her control and has Barry turn in his badge until his name is cleared. Before Barry can continue the investigation on his own, suspecting it is linked to his own mental condition, S.T.A.R. Labs is shut down by the authorities when a radiation leak is detected, with the authorities planning to demolish the entire facility once the radiation has been contained and removed. In order to preserve his secret identity, Barry wipes the lab's memory banks as he and his friends gather their things and leave. Team Flash discovers a psychic supervillain named Xotar is on the loose and the likely culprit behind turning Barry insane. Tracking down Xotar, Barry races to stop her lasting plot only to find himself back in the loft where he nearly attacks Chester before the rest of the Team Flash temporarily puts

The Flash {SPOILERS}: Audience Reactions

Warning: SPOILERS for The Flash season 6 finale. The Flash season 6 finale, "Success Is Assured", was notable in several respects, ending with most of the seasons' subplots left unresolved and an unprecedented number of cliffhangers. It was also the first time in the series' history that the season's main villain accomplished their ultimate goal and was established as returning next season. It seems likely that this was entirely due to the shooting delays caused by the coronavirus outbreak. The season finales for nearly all of the Arrowverse shows were bumped up and re-edited after it became clear that they would not be able to finish filming the original finales in time for the May Sweeps period. In the case of The Flash, production stopped with 20 of the season's 22 episodes completely filmed. Originally, The Flash season 6 was meant to end with the return of the Reverse-Flash and a big cliffhanger heading into season 7. Despite this, the season still comes to a suitable conclusion, with several small cliffhangers and the biggest metahuman battle in the show's history. Mirror Mistress' Plan In The Flash Season 6 Finale The second half of The Flash season 6 focused on the efforts of Dr. Eva McCulloch aka Mirror Mistress to escape from the mirror universe she'd been trapped in for six years. and avenge herself by killing her husband, Joseph Carver. Dr. McCulloch claimed that Carver took advantage of her being sent into another dimension by STAR Labs' particle accelerator explosion to take over her company and establish himself as the leader of the criminal cabal known as Black Hole. Carver, in turn, claimed that he had tried to rescue his wife, but the experts he employed told him that the Mirrorverse distorts people like a fun-house mirror and that the woman who claimed to be his wife was just a twisted copy who thought she was Dr. Eva McCulloch. It was unclear who was telling the truth, but Barry Allen was unwilling to stand by and let Dr. McCulloch kill her treacherous husband, even after Carver confessed that he had allowed Iris West-Allen to be drawn into the Mirrorverse and kept her whereabouts a secret. Barry also refused to negotiate with Mirror Mistress after she offered to release the real Iris in exchange for him looking the other way as she killed Carver. This set up an epic battle within McCulloch Technologies, as Team Flash faced off against the newly dubbed Mirror Mistress and her allies. These included Sunshine, Dr. Light, and Ultraviolet; three light-themed metahuman assassins whom Carver had forced into his service and whom Mirror Mistress promised to free if they helped her get to her husband. The Flash featured the deaths of some major DC characters. But who are they, and what exactly happened to them?Warning - This article contains major spoilers for The Flash. The Flash already spoiled one of its deaths ahead of release, with director Andy Muschieti confirming in advance that Sasha Calle's Supergirl would die, however, he did hint how the Multiverse could still allow her to return.Everyone Who Dies in DC's The FlashThroughout the chaotic Multiversal events of The Flash, there were always bound to be casualties, with two Barry Allens, Michael Keaton's Batman, and Sasha Calle's Supergirl going toe-to-toe with both General Zod and Dark Flash. Here are all six main characters (plus plenty of others) who died in The Flash.1.) Nora Allen DCNora Allen's demise shouldn't be a huge surprise as she was already dead at the start of The Flash. At least, that was the case until Barry Allen went back in time to save his mother, thus setting the movie's Multiversal events in motion. But eventually, Barry realized his mother's death was a necessary moment in the timeline, leading him to go back in time to undo his actions to prevent her death.Exactly who killed Nora remains unclear after The Flash, but it came due to a stab wound to the chest. Although most adaptations portray the Reverse Flash as the one to kill Barry's mother, there was no implication of his involvement here.2.) Michael Keaton’s Batman DCAfter leading two solo movies of his own in the late '80s and early '90s, Michael Keaton's Batman returned for one last time in The Flash, but, unfortunately, met his demise not once but twice on-screen in the movie's climax. The first came as he crashed the Batwing into General Zod's ship, and the second, after the two Barry Allens went back in time to undo those events, was after being wounded in a fight with one of the Kryptonian soldiers.Based on prior reports, Keaton's Batman wasn't always meant to die in The Flash, as he was once set to appear in the ending and replace Ben Affleck as the main live-action Batman. He even filmed scenes for the now-canceled Batgirl movie.3.) Supergirl DCSimilarly to Michael Keaton's Batman, Supergirl lost her life twice during The Flash during the big climactic battle against General Zod, as the two Barry Allens went back in time to undo her death alongside that of the Dark Knight. After confronting Zod in a moment of anger, Supergirl was impaled by the Kryptonian villain, leading to her death, with the second time playing out extremely similar to the first.Taking on Supergirl and stealing her blood was the reason behind Zod's invasion of Earth in the first place, as it was infused with the Growth Codex which held the genetic makeup of all artificially incubated babies from Krypton.4.) Baby Kal-El DCSpeaking of the Growth Codex, General Zod's mission to find Krypton's last hope may have landed him on Earth face-to-face with Kara Zor-El, but he first went looking for Kal-El, better known.
